Browser Hijack Virus- By: roy orberson

Description : A browser hijack virus is really two different things. A browser hijack is when an installed program tells your browser to open into another page than what it's supposed to. A virus is a program that does very bad stuff to your computer or watches and monitors your activities. I am seeing viruses and hijackers being installed at the same time. Tubby is a good example of this.
What happens is; you download a program from the internet and install it on your computer. When you installed this program it changed settings in you browsers registry files. This is what actually hijacks your browser. This program also installs a virus in the background without you ever knowing it. When you trust a program and install it, this allows it to get by your anti-virus easier. The browser hijack virus may not be the same thing, they often work together. The most common thing I see is virus warnings. A person opens their browser and it goes to a page that looks like a virus scanner is running. It then tells you that your computer is infected and you need to buy it now to remove these viruses. A lot of times you will have the virus running in the background popping up on your desktop saying the same thing as your browser. This is how they work together and try to get you to purchase their software. Also note, if you do buy the advertised software, it will not remove the virus.
So how do we get rid of the browser hijack virus? This has to be done in two stages. I recommend that you use spyzooka or another similar anti-virus program to remove the virus. Here's a tip, sometimes you will need to restart your computer in safe mode to get the antivirus program to install and remove the virus fully. Once you get the virus removed you should reboot your computer several times to make sure it is completely removed. Sometimes the virus will back its self-up in various locations throughout your computer. If it does come back just reboot in safe mode and run the antivirus program again. Then reboot normally and run the anti-virus program again. You might need to do this several times to full remove it from your computer. Now that the virus is removed you will need to remove the browser hijack. If you used spyzooka as your anti-virus program it would take care of this for you. If you didn't use spyzooka you will need to manually go into your browsers registry and change the homepage address. You will probably also need to do this for your tabs as well.
It's no fun having a virus, but it's not the end of the world if you know how to get rid of it. With the right tools you should be able to fix any virus or redirect problems you might have. Remember a browser hijack virus is really two different things and it should be treated as such.
